A former dancer, Kim started getting chiropractic care in her early twenties for her hip pain that ailed her throughout teens. Kim tried a few practitioners before finding the right fit for her. When she became pregnant with her first child, Kim’s midwife recommended a chiropractor who specialized in prenatal care.
“My chiro understood what my body is going through and become a wealth of knowledge. She made sure I have a healthy pregnancy and that my hips and low back are well aligned and pain-free. But more importantly, I felt like she was helping me take better care of myself.”
Kim’s second pregnancy did not go as smoothly as the first one. Her daughter became transverse which is sideways in the belly. Her chiropractor used techniques to avoid putting more pressure on the abdomen and provided case-specific exercises and stretches that were safe to do.
“I did various prenatal exercises at home which helped to get the baby in the right position, and I was able to deliver naturally. I definitely give credit to my chiropractor and the prenatal massage that helped prepare my body for this kind of situation.”
Fast forward, Kim has now three beautiful children who receive regular chiropractic care to check on various milestones. “For instance, my youngest son was born with an extraordinarily big head and rather smaller body. He’s been struggling with tummy time and holding up his head, so my chiropractor has been guiding me through that.” Kim’s youngest also suffered from tongue-tie and was losing weight as a result because he couldn’t breastfeed properly. Her chiropractor recognized the problem which led to seeing a pediatric dentist who resolved the issue.
At present, Kim and her youngest are seeing their chiropractor once a month for postnatal and neonatal care, and her three and five-year-old visit anywhere between two and three months apart unless there is an injury.
Kim has a lot of experience with chiropractic care from various doctors and says that “just because one chiropractor isn’t a great fit for you it doesn’t mean that all chiropractors are not a good fit. Try another one before you give up on chiropractic care altogether. I can’t speak of chiropractic high enough and have recommended my chiropractor to quite a few mommy friends.”
