Initially, Tiberius started seeing a chiropractor for his office-related back pain from sitting too long at the desk. In June 2018, he started feeling severe low back pain after a tennis session. He thought it was just a minor injury which will heal on its own. However, in September, his pain became so severe he could barely get up from the bed and stand for longer than a few seconds. At that point, Tiberius picked up the phone to make an appointment with his chiropractor but unfortunately, he was on a vacation.
“I was in so much pain, so I called a local hospital and went to the emergency room. They put me on pain medication and did some scanning of my back.” After three days at home, Tiberius ended up back in the emergency room. “They actually put me on morphine for four nights. And after that, I took three Ibuprofen and two Tylenol every six hours. That’s five pills. Still, it didn’t work much.”
In the meantime, Tiberius’ chiropractor came back, and he was able to secure an appointment. After an examination, his chiropractor informed him the pain was a result of spinal nerve inflammation and swelling caused by the pressure of the herniated disc. “My chiropractor worked on me for a few minutes and did an adjustment. I was a bit skeptical and didn’t think it’s going to work, but after the adjustment, I was able to walk for nearly two hours!”
Tiberius’ chiropractor asked him to come back every two days for check-up and treatment. With the lessening of the pain, Tiberius was able to drop his pain medication dose by half and eventually to none. “I was starting to feel way, way better. My chiro gave me some exercises to do at home and I did everything that he told me. Also, I got my results from the CT scan and MRI, confirming the herniated disc.”
After about two weeks of treatment, his chiropractor put Tiberius on a once-a-week treatment plan and eventually dropped visits to once a month, saying that Tiberius could stop visiting completely. Now, Tiberius is back to being active and playing various sports.
“I’m feeling 95% back in shape. So, I’m pretty happy with the progression. My chiro put me back onto my feet and into the game!” Tiberius is grateful to his college for recommending his chiropractor and after his experience, he keeps paying it forward.
