To put it in the most simple terms, the role of the CCBC is to protect and educate the public, whereas the BCCA works to serve the interests of chiropractors and the chiropractic profession. The CCBC is a body that was created through the BC Health Professions Act and which is accountable to the Government of British Columbia (Ministry of Health).
In order to ensure public protection, the CCBC licences and regulates chiropractors and sets minimum standards of practice. As part of this mandate, the CCBC has the duty to receive and investigate complaints against chiropractors and set out and enforce appropriate corrective action.
The mandate of the BCCA is to protect the interests of and advance the chiropractic profession in BC. The BCCA works to advocate on behalf of chiropractors (BCCA members), educate the public on the benefits of chiropractic, and enter into partnerships that are beneficial to our members to help propel the profession forward.
In addition, BCCA provides its members with resources and information that allow them to succeed in their practice. This includes advice and consultation on business-related matters.
