Before her pregnancy, Theresa was always a bit skeptical about chiropractic care. As many people out there, she thought that once you start seeing a chiropractor you will always have to go back. While approaching the end of her pregnancy, at about 36 weeks, she started getting pain in her low back and pelvis. “I had really bad sciatic pain that ran down the back of my legs. I could barely walk and ended up missing four days of work because of that.”
Theresa told her midwife about the pain and she recommended to visit a chiropractor. Despite her skepticism, Theresa booked an initial consultation and a follow-up appointment. “In those two sessions, I really noticed a huge difference and thought oh wow, maybe there is something more to chiropractic than I originally thought.”
When her son was about seven months old, her pain came back, and she had trouble walking again. Her naturopath recommended another chiropractor, conveniently located in Theresa’s neighbourhood. “The office was so welcoming, and the doctor instantly made me feel at ease and explained everything that she was doing. I had always been really afraid of the neck and head adjustments, but she was totally fine with that and used a device called activator.”
Theresa’s chiropractor treated her sciatica and hips and explained how the way she was carrying her son was affecting her posture and ultimately caused her pain. “She was really friendly, informative and took great care of me.”
Theresa told her chiropractor she was worried she would have to continue treatments indefinitely, but her chiro assured her that she will need only a few sessions until the issue was resolved and that it would be up to Theresa to continue if she felt the need. “After a few sessions, the underlining cause of my pain was gone, and I was pain-free!” As Theresa’s son was getting bigger, her chiropractor demonstrated proper ways of wearing a baby carrier how to protect her back as a new mom.
“Ever since then, I just tend to go back when I really feel like my back or chest is getting tight or when my back is sore from sitting at work. My chiro has always been really great at treating me for what I need at that moment and then letting me decide when to come back.”
Experiencing pain first hand and getting help from a chiropractor, Theresa would say “not to believe negative rumours and try it out for yourself. I highly recommend getting chiropractic treatment for back-related issues and health maintenance.”
