As a stage actor, Jonathan has to keep in top shape and that includes having a healthy back. The very first time Jonathan saw a chiropractor was in Ontario, almost nine years ago. He learned about chiropractic through word of mouth. People around him were saying that chiropractic worked really well. “I went and saw a chiropractor and noticed right off the bat an improvement in my range of motion and it wasn’t necessarily back pain I was suffering from at the time, it was stiffness and feeling locked up.”
When he moved to Vancouver last year, Jonathan found a local chiropractor and have been enjoying the benefits of chiropractic care along with other forms of manual therapies.
“I’ve had poor posture when I was growing up and throughout my puberty which has caused some issues in my upper back, so I find that after a period of no treatment I can get locked up pretty quick. So, I wish I had started seeing a chiropractor way earlier.”
To find a local chiro, Jonathan searched online reviews and found a female chiropractor which he described as “not necessarily the largest human being” and was worried that she won’t be able to manipulate him. However, after his first treatment, he felt fantastic. “I realized, in the chiropractic profession, as long as it’s somebody who is well-trained, body size doesn’t matter. It’s all about what they know and how they use the information.”
Jonathan describes his chiropractor as very knowledgeable and caring. They have great conversations about health and body care that make him feel comfortable and in good hands. Jonathan appreciates that his chiropractor uses the activator in combination with manual therapies, which he finds gentle and very effective. He feels that through chiropractic care, massage therapy and physiotherapy (which he was referred to by his chiropractor), his back issues will improve to a point where he is not living with a constant kind of feeling of “oh, that’s still bothering me, that’s still acting up.”
He’d like to say to anyone feeling any sort of doubt or hesitation regarding chiropractic to “at least give it a chance and see if it works for you and if it turns out that you don’t feel as though anything is happening then move on. But, always give it a chance first.”
