The treatment of low back pain: Canadian Compensation Boards are ignoring Evidence Based Care!

"Better Health Care for British Columbians at Reduced Cost"

It's no secret: our health care system is in crisis.

"The people of British Columbia are paying a heavy price for our dysfunctional health care system," claims the British Columbia Chiropractic Association, "with their hard-earned dollars, their livelihoods, their well-being and, potentially, their lives."

The British Columbia Chiropractic Association and B.C. College of Chiropractors host a comprehensive programme that will examine our prevailing health care crisis - long-typified by the Compensation Board system - and will present innovative, economically-viable patient care solutions that promise every British Columbian the affordable, effective, available care to which they are entitled.

Citing both Canadian and International studies, the Association and the College point to the documented benefits of chiropractic treatment for non-surgical spinal problems as a means of improving the current standards of patient care, in addition to cutting treatment costs and improving patient outcomes by up to fifty percent.

Leading advocates of health care reforms in our province, the Association and College ask: Why are British Columbians being denied the opportunity to receive improved health care, in their community, at a reduced cost? What are the real issues? What are the attainable solutions?

The Association contends that the government is ignoring the evidence, and sacrificing the opportunity to achieve substantial, long-term savings for patients, employers, the Ministry of Health, and insurers such as the Workers Compensation Boards. The College contends that appropriate standards of care are not being followed - resulting in delayed recovery, unnecessary pain and chronic disability.
