All health professions and resulting health services are the result of a provincial law. Enabling Chiropractic legislation was passed in 1934. The BC government undertook legislative reform for all health professions concluding in 2009. Prior to 1934 chiropractic doctors were organized by a voluntary organization established in 1922.
The College of Chiropractors of BC transitioned from the Chiropractors Act (1934 - 2009) to a regulatory College established under the Health Professions Act (HPA). This transition was effective March 01, 2009. A general review of government's legislation reform and related matters can be found at the following link of the Ministry of Health - Legislation and Professional Regulation - What's New
The Health Professions Act (HPA) is a copyright document available from the Queens Printer. The HPA establishes regulations and bylaws which determine authorities and responsibilities of the College of Chiropractors of Board in regulating BC's chiropractic doctors.
