Making A Complaint

The College of Chiropractors of BC (CCBC) is mandated to deal with complaints about chiropractors practicing in BC.

If you wish to make a complaint about a BC chiropractic doctor, you need to describe your complaint in writing and submit it to the CCBC Registrar at the following address:

Registrar
College of Chiropractors of BC
#125-3751 Shell Road,
Richmond, BC V6X 2W2

Concerns may include inappropriate communication, language or behaviour. The Professional Conduct Handbook for BC College registrants can be viewed here.

Sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment of a patient by a chiropractic doctor, is unacceptable to the College of Chiropractors of British Columbia, and all complaints are taken very seriously.  During the investigation of sexual misconduct or harassment complaints and any disciplinary proceedings that follow, the College will strive to be supportive of the complainant’s concerns while remaining fair to the chiropractor. A copy of the Sexual Misconduct Complaints Handout can be downloaded here as a pdf document.

Processing and Reporting Discipline

As the regulatory body for chiropractic doctors in British Columbia, the College of Chiropractors of BC is responsible, under provincial legislation, for serving and protecting the public. The College does this by ensuring that registrants practice in a competent, safe and ethical manner in accordance with the Health Professions Act (the HPA), the Chiropractors Regulation, other applicable statutes and regulations, and the College’s Bylaws and Professional Conduct Handbook.

As part of its regulatory function, the College receives and reviews complaints about chiropractors in accordance with processes outlined in the HPA and the Bylaws.

The vast majority of these complaints are resolved by the Registrar and Inquiry Committee with only a very few having to be referred to the Discipline Committee for hearing.

Under the HPA, not all discipline decisions have to be published.  Public notice is required for decisions:
- concerning conduct that, if proven or admitted, would normally result in the imposition of practice restrictions, a suspension or cancellation of registration, or a fine;
- where discipline is applied after a citation is issued for a hearing before the Discipline Committee; or
- that involve the imposition of practice restrictions, or the suspension or cancellation of registration.

Notice to the public of the College’s discipline decisions can be found under “Recent Discipline” heading below or by searching a registrant’s name using the “Find a Registered Member” search function on the right side of this page.
