Introduction
The Health Professions Act bylaws for the College of Chiropractors establish the following committees. The College Board appoints individuals to these committees as prescribed by the bylaws. Each committee includes at least one public individual appointed as a director to the College Board and one public representative who is appointed by the College Board. Other committee appointments include registrants of the College as well as College Board directors who are chiropractic doctors. Registration Committee (Bylaw 15)
The committee includes two directors of the College Board who are chiropractic doctors and one director who is a public appointee. The Registration committee receives requests from applicants for registration and registrants of the College seeking change of registration status. Inquiry Committee (Bylaw 16)
The committee includes 6 persons. These include one director of the Board who is a public appointee, four chiropractic doctors and one public representative appointed by the Board.
Discipline Committee (Bylaw 17)
The committee includes 6 persons. These include one director of the Board who is a public appointee, four chiropractic doctors and one public representative appointed by the Board.
Quality Assurance Committee (Bylaw 18)
The committee includes 4 persons. These include one director of the Board who is a public appointee, one public representative appointed by the board and two directors of the College Board who are chiropractic doctors.
Patient Relations Committee (Bylaw 19)
The committee includes 3 persons. These include one director of the Board who is a pubic appointee and two directors of the College Board who are chiropractic doctors. The committee will establish and maintain procedures by which the college deals with complaints of professional misconduct of a sexual nature. Sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment of a patient by a chiropractic doctor, is unacceptable to the College of Chiropractors of British Columbia, and all complaints are taken very seriously. During the investigation of complaints and any disciplinary proceedings that follow, the College will strive to be supportive of the complainant’s concerns while remaining fair to the chiropractor.
