BC CHIROPRACTIC ASSOCIATION and BC COLLEGE
OF CHIROPRACTORS September 27-30, 2001 In conjunction with the 10th Annual General Meeting of the BC Chiropractic Association and the 68th Annual General Meeting of the BC College of Chiropractors, you are invited to attend this annual general meeting and conference whose focus is the examination and outcomes of the treatment of the cervical spine. Topics and Invited Speakers: This conference is for BCCA members, their Chiropractic Office Staff (who are key in each member's practice) and all persons interested in improving patient outcomes. This year's focus is the Cervical Spine and associated conditions, their diagnosis, and treatment. Douglas McCrory, MD, MHSc, presents research findings on spinal manipulation for headache. The report titled "Evidence Report: Behavioral and Physical Treatments for Tension-type and Cervicogenic Headache" was produced by the Duke University Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC), with funding by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER). Duke University is one of 12 institutions awarded the trademark "EPC" by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. LaVerne A. Saboe, Chiropractic Neurologist, Forensic Examiner, presents "Functional Radiology of the Cervical Spine". This presentation includes information on headaches, alar ligament tears, intersegmental hypomobility, and other important clinical issues. The importance of flexion and extension views in determining hyper-hypomobilities applying the "Penning" method as a standard of care will also be discussed. Dr. Kim Humphreys, CMCC Associate Dean, Research, presents new anatomical findings arising from research of the upper cervical spine and how this may impact the understanding of cervical spine/neck pain and treatment outcomes. This research has been co-funded by the B.C. College of Chiropractors. Dr. Anthony L. Rosner, Director of Research and Education, FCER, presents information on interpreting research correctly. This topic is critical for all to understand as policy makers and media alike use the "best" research to impact health care. Dr. Rosner will review studies that appear to be intentionally flawed, and refute unwarranted attacks on chiropractic research and practice. Other topics include the safety of chiropractic management and how each chiropractor can contribute to clinical research. Dr. Gerry Clum, President Life West, is the feature speaker for Sunday 09:00 to 12:00 noon. This session is for Doctors and office staff and should not be missed. Dr. Clum is an excellent speaker who always presents topical information including chiropractic philosophy and principles and the profession's role in health and education.
