Observations from the Field Dear Dr. Nixdorf, I recently attended the Chiropractic Care of Sport and Recreational Injury seminar held in Whistler. Since you were unable to attend, I would like to inform you that the seminar was a complete success. The format, instructors and information were exceptional. At seminars, we tend to say that if you can take one thing away with you that is useful, then the seminar was worthwhile. By this standard, the Whistler seminar far exceeded that expectation. For each injury, we were taken from assessment through to treatment and rehabilitation. This is information that we can use daily in our office, not just on the sports field. It was very obvious that we have in our profession, doctors with advanced knowledge and training in the treatment and management of sports injuries. These doctors have spent a lot of time and energy to further their knowledge, becoming Fellows of the College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences. I feel honoured that these doctors took time out of their busy practices to share their knowledge and experience. It is a shame that more doctors did not have the opportunity to experience this seminar. With so many more people involved in recreation and competitive sports, it behooves us as primary care physicians to have a working knowledge of common sports injury assessment and treatment. I am hoping that the Council on Sport Sciences of B.C. will continue to provide the high calibre of seminar that we experienced at Whistler. Sincerely, Jane Rosenfeld, D.C., B. Sc.
