MSP announces electronic payment for opted-out practitioners

While opted-out practitioners have been able to bill electronically, payments received have been in the form of cheques made payable to the patient. By now, offices should have received notice that opted-out practitioners can specify that electronic payment be made directly to their financial institution or office twice a month. The administrative advantages of this system are obvious for all concerned.

Those practitioners who are not billing electronically can contact service bureaus such as those offered by the B.C.C.A. MSP has provided each office a supply of forms which can be copied as needed. This form must be signed once by the patient for inclusion in the patient's records. Payment forms currently being signed by patients to allow members to cash monthly cheques are now replaced by the MSP-equivalent form and kept in the patient's chart.
