CCA Update • Mr. Ed Barisa is leaving his position as Executive Director to assume a similar role with the Ontario Real Estate Association. The Governors thank Mr. Barisa for his efforts and are pleased to award him an honorary membership in the CCA, in recognition of his service to the profession. • The Executive has been directed by the Board of Governors to conduct a search for a new Executive Director. The Board of Governors will confirm the successful candidate and announce the appointment to members. • Clinical Practice Guidelines are being reviewed and updated, with the first draft expected to be completed shortly. It is hoped that funding will be obtained through the OCA, who has access to monies made available through the Ontario government for this very purpose. This will have a positive affect on the CCA budget. • The CCA and the CCPA are co-producing a new video on informed consent and office procedures. Production has started and the CCPA will be funding two thirds of the production costs. • The CCA web site has been updated, and while the number of “hits” are up, the number of visits to the “members only” section are quite low. We believe the reason for this is that most members have lost or forgotten their five-digit I.D. number, which allows them to access this section. The CCA will be addressing this issue in early January 2001, so that members can access this area of the site. There are also plans to add a discussion group area. Awards • The CCA will be soon be announcing the winner of the Medal of Merit—our highest honor for outstanding, long-term service. • The Life Member Award, which bestows membership for life without fees, was awarded to Rod Belyea for his life-long service to the profession, the CCA and the development of chiropractic in PEI. • The James L. Watkins Award was approved in principle and provides one year of membership in the CCA & CCPA. This award will be presented to a graduating student who has strong academic credentials, along with demonstrated interest in the Student's Administrative Counsel and/or, the Student Canadian Chiropractic Association. • The Young Investigator Award - recognizing young researchers in the chiropractic field - was presented to Jason Busse from CMCC, along with a bursary of $1000 dollars at the Research Symposium . This award is presented to an investigator who has held their degree less than two years, for a paper not yet or recently published. Endorsements • Funds received through endorsement contracts are directed to fund chiropractic research through the CCRF. We recently received a cheque from Sears/Springwall for the sum of $35,000 dollars, with a promise to double this amount by next year with enhanced advertising and marketing. • Merrill Lynch has been appointed the provider of the CCA Financial Planning & Investment Program. • Other endorsements include Serengeti Sunglasses (CCA members receive a 40% discount) and cash-back rebates of 10% from Hewlett Packard. • We are also pursuing an endorsement from Airpacks - manufacturer of an ergonomic knapsack, as well as complimentary copies of “For Your Swing”—a golf booklet featuring pre-game stretches and other useful exercises. < Return to Library
