1999 AGM in Victoria brings unprecedented speakers and attendance!
The 350 attendees of this year’s AGM enjoyed a truly international experience, amongst the backdrop of the beautiful Empress Hotel in Victoria and of course, some light rain. Speakers from around the world gathered to share research results on everything from post-concussion syndrome to the cervical spine muscle response in whiplash. Perhaps the most talked about presentation was that of Dr. Michael Freeman, Chair of the Whiplash Trauma Congress, who presented high speed video clips of volunteer crash test victims and the affects of a low speed crash to the body. “We would like to thank Dr. Freeman for organizing an informative and dynamic group of presenters,” says Don Nixdorf, executive director for the BCCA. “I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Convention Committee — Dr. Brian McLaughlin, Dr. Colin McKay, Dr. Chris Martin and Dr. Tim St. Denis — who contributed to the success of this year’s AGM. The planning process for AGM 2000 is being done through the Association office, with the assistance of the Convention Committee and the Board. We look forward to presenting another memorable event next year.” “The NAWTC was excellent. It was great to hear validation from the different disciplines through their facts and analysis and be able to understand how the findings impact us as chiropractors. Dr. Freeman’s visuals showing the impact of whiplash on drivers were amazing. I also have to commend Dr. Freeman for organizing an excellent line-up of speakers and keeping the presentations on track. It’s very difficult to keep us doctors on track!” — Dr. Barbara James, Kelowna “I am a recent grad (1995) and since graduating, there are only two seminars that I have attended where I actually learned something, and this was one of them. It was a fabulous group of researchers and the presentation format kept you interested and attentive.” — Dr. Elli Morton, North Vancouver “The internationality about the AGM was excellent. The location was outstanding, the venue was excellent and it was very well planned out this year. We attend every year and I really wish that all chiropractors in the province would attend, because it is something that we should stand together and do as a profession. I would like to see the BCCA make conference attendance mandatory every two years. It’s tough to make decisions on a provincial basis when you don’t have the input from everyone across the province. I think we should pay for the conference up front in our annual fees and help subsidize the travel costs of chiropractors who are located far away. It’s tough to make decisions on a provincial basis when you don’t have the input from everyone across the province.” — Dr. Brad Gueldner, Abbotsford “The Whiplash Trauma Congress was obviously the highlight of the AGM. Many of the presenters left you hungry for more, which is obviously the sign of a good speaker. I think we learned a few things that will be invaluable in our dealings with ICBC and our friends in the government. The most important item we gained is access to the AJPM Journal, which will be a very useful tool for the profession. I thought that Sunday’s speaker Dr. Stanbury was excellent. He is a fellow that I could have sat and listened to indefinitely. We would like to attend next year, but given our location, cost always plays a factor in our decision.” — Dr. Richard Smith, Creston AGM 2000 is scheduled for Nov 16-19 at the Delta Pacific Resort in Richmond, BC — See you there!
