  • Action 25 and the National advertising campaign continue to be a primary focus for the CCA, with the goal of increasing the number of Canadians seeking Chiropractic care to 25% from its present levels. Dr. David Dunn of Nova Scotia will be the new chair of the communications committee.
  • Dr. Ione Pulchalski (ON), head of the Insurance Committee, continues to forge strong ties with the insurance industry and presents a strong case for the inclusion of Chiropractic services by third party payers in the various plans available to the public through their employers and other organizations.
  • Dr. Grayden Bridge of Alberta has successfully chaired the research committee and we continue to see expanded opportunities for research:
  1. The Chiropractic Foundation for Spinal Research has changed its name to the Chiropractic Research Foundation. Along with the CCA, the Foundation has partnered with the Medical Research Council and Canadian Institute for Health Research to fund several important research projects.
  2. The CRF hopes to raise one million dollars by year end through memberships ($125.00 per year) and fundraising. We are hoping for at least 200 new members during 2000. Alberta has contributed 60 thousand dollars and New Brunswick has contributed four thousand eight hundred dollars to this campaign.
  3. Two significant research projects in the works: one is headed by Dr. Howie Vernon on headaches, while the other will be championed by Dr. Scott Haldeman & Dr. David Cassidy on head and neck pain.
  • The Glenerin Clinical Guidelines are being reviewed and revised. Dr. Henderson is in charge of this project, with 30 organizations and stakeholders offering their input. It has been seven years since the guidelines were first published.
  • At a recent strat plan meeting, the CCA developed a new Mission Statement, which the Board of Governors whole-heartedly endorsed at its recent AGM in Montreal; The mission of the Canadian Chiropractic Association is to help Canadians live healthier lives by:
  1. Informing the public about the benefits of chiropractic care.
  2. Promoting the integration of chiropractic into the health care system.
  3. Facilitating chiropractic research.
